I LOVE SPONGEBOB!

So the "EVENTFUL" month is coming soon...

just in case u r wondering y is this blog kind of dead, it's because the month of may is coming. u may not know but it's month of the exams... =(

no more playing, no more trainings, no more gg out (maybe once in a while to relax =D ), but more n more of mugging thru the days.

anyway, i just finished studying for the day n decided i should type a post to keep it gg. hahaha... n post some info as usual. =)

i was surfing the net to find some "special" formula to enhance my brain memory so that i can cramp as much information into it before the papers. YES! i did found one. (though it didn't turn out as i expected but it's interesting to find out something new) i will post it up later..

let's see what's special to talk abt for the past week or so...

it's been a whole week of reporting to SIM for revision classes which were kinda endurance testing for me when u have some lecturers possessing the natural talent of singing lullaby even without knowing it themselves...

u may think how's that possible? it started when i was trying to catch wat they r talking abt. the concentration on the monotonous "special" accent of the lecturers just made me drowsy (it was even better than any sleeping pill... hahaha...)

not saying that the lecturers were bad, but i was really trying my best already. (maybe my best was not enough... =P )

my pbf lecturer was the ultimate one, i must commend him on this. he was the only one that manage to keep me awake at all times for the two straight full days with him.

u must be thinking what he possess that is able to do so right?

well, the trick is DUN GIVE NOTES!!! hahaha... r u thinking: huh??? yes, he didn't give any notes n we have to copy notes. it was TERRIBLE!!! the moment he uncap his pen, i was already with my pen writing every single word he wrote on the transparencies. doing it for one whole day was no joke... u will finger cramps... n u will have to stretch ur fingers... (just in case u wan to know how to stretch ur fingers... try searching it on google or yahoo... tell me if u found any... cos i made that up... hahaha... i will show u my version if u ask me =] )

at the end of uol-pbf revision workshop. i copied 15 pages of notes... i was so proud of myself... haha.. at least i fetl that it's an achievement for me... =P

other than that it was manfred who managed to keep us back for 1 n a half hours of overtime...

besides sch n studies, there was the physical training i conducted for blacks.

Namelist of attendees:
Guys
Kan
Derek
Jiaming
Chester
Me

Girls
Mich
Prissy
Jac
Winnie
Esther

not too bad, first time the girls actually participated. but it was really a bad day for esther... hahaha...

Ass Joke 1:
i was getting ready to conduct the training when i saw someone wearing a funny pair of running shoes... although it's kinda nice with the pink but it's definitely not running shoes girl... it's more like kayaking shoes... the best part was when she told me:

"it's very light n nice to run with, i have been running with this for a long time..."

my expressions after hearing... from o_O !? ------> -__-|||

Ass Joke 2:
well, i dun stop anyone from wearing whichever makes them comfortable. so i told her, at least please wear socks... then she said: "opps, i forgotten to bring my socks..."

-__-||| -------> -__-|||||| u get wat i meant...

Ass Joke 3:
wearing the wrong things at the wrong place, at the wrong time... she wore her PJ t-shirt. it's yellow in colour. n with her "kayaking"-running shoes.

so happen that NP was conducting their camp. n all the campers r wearing yellow top n shorts.

so it became the joke that she's not here for PT but for camp... hahahaha....

as for the rest of them i guess, i will keep it between all those who were there for PT n Subway n Tao Huay... =] i know u must be thinking... geesh y dun continue? i wan to know more... too bad... it's the privilege for those who came for training... =P

Next, I attended jerelyn's 21st bdae last sat... most memorable bdae i ever came across so far... the guests have to play a game... "Do you know Jerelyn?" all the questions are like wat's her fav fruit, thing, blah, blah, blah...

i was like thinking i m not her bf how i know all these... if i do then i will be her bf alr... hahaha... well at least they r kind enough for us to form groups n discuss... my god...

in the end, still lose... n have to drink some "specialty drink" which everyone try to escape... n being the only guy in the group... i drank most of it... which turned out to be SUPER BITTER... n the bitterness will stay for a while in ur mouth...

well, if ever there's a punishment drink... guess i will hide one corner... hahahaha... =P

I guess this wraps up for the week... till then folks... will come by soon... but no promises...

anyway here's the article... read on.... for those who r mugging for exams... =)

Get Fit, Improve Memory?

Exercise May Boost Memory Through Brain Blood Flow and New Brain Cells
By Miranda Hitti

Reviewed by Louise Chang, MD

March 13, 2007 -- Want a sharper memory? Lace up your sneakers. Exercise may boost memory, and a new study shows how.

The researchers found that exercise boosts blood flow to a brain area involved in memory -- even in people who aren't in top shape.

Three months of exercise was all it took for people with low levels of aerobic fitness to increase blood flow to that part of their brain and improve their scores on memory tests, the study shows.

Additional tests on mice show new brain cells growing in the same memory-related brain area after two weeks of exercise.

Add it all up, and you've got a good reason to get moving, says researcher Scott Small, MD, of Columbia University in New York.

"I, like many physicians, already encourage my patients to get active and this adds yet another reason to the long list of reasons why exercise is good for overall health," Small says in a Columbia news release.

Studying Exercise and Memory

The new study appears in the early online edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

First, Small's team put running wheels in the cages of 23 mice. For comparison, another 23 mice had no access to running wheels.

As expected, the mice with the running wheels in their cages took full advantage of their exercise gear. They ran on the wheels without any training or encouragement.

Two weeks later, the scientists gave the mice a dye shot to mark new brain cells in the memory-related brain area. After four more weeks, the scientists checked the mice's brains.

The exercising mice had more evidence of new brain cells and more blood flow in the memory-related brain area. The mice with no running wheels in their cages had no new brain cells and no increased blood flow in that brain area.

From the Couch to the Treadmill

Next, the researchers focused on people. They recruited 11 healthy volunteers aged 21-45 (average age: 33) with below-average levels of aerobic fitness.

First, participants completed memory tests and an aerobic fitness test. They also got brain scans using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Next, participants shed their sedentary ways. The researchers assigned them to work out for an hour, four times weekly for three months, at Columbia University's fitness center.

The workout routine: Warm up for five minutes at a low intensity on a stationary bike or treadmill, stretch for five minutes, do 40 minutes of aerobic training (on a stationary bike, treadmill, stair machine, or elliptical trainer), and cool down and stretch for 10 minutes.

Work Out, Boost Memory

After three months of exercise, participants repeated the memory tests, aerobic fitness tests, and MRI brain scan.

Those follow-up tests showed an increase in blood flow to the memory-related brain area, better scores on the memory tests, and improvements in aerobic fitness.

The researchers didn't use a dye test to check for new brain cells in the exercisers' brains. So the study doesn't prove that exercise boosted human brain cell production, though exercise apparently had that effect on mice.

The next step is to figure out what exercise regimen is most beneficial for memory, Small notes. He suggests that doctors may one day be able to prescribe specific types of exercise to improve memory.

Meanwhile, be sure to check in with your doctor before starting a new exercise program, especially if you've been physically inactive for a while.

[do u feel like increasing ur memory space alr??? hahaha...]

Silent night...

Here's an article about sleep disruption. Read on for those who always cannot get enough sleep. =]

Disrupted sleep may alter pain perception
- Apr 03, 2007
Reuters

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - People who continually have their sleep disrupted, whether by insomnia or a crying newborn, may become more susceptible to pain, preliminary research suggests.

In a sleep-lab study of 32 healthy young women, researchers found that those who were subjected to repeated sleep disruptions over three nights showed a change in their pain perception. Their bodies' ability to inhibit pain signals declined, and as a group, the women reported more "spontaneous" pain, such as an aching back or stomach cramps, on the days following their poor night's sleep.

In contrast, this was not the case for study participants who were allowed to sleep for only a few hours per night but did not have their sleep disrupted. Although these women slept for the same total time as those in the disrupted-sleep group, their pain perception appeared unaffected.

This suggests that repeated awakenings during the night might have a particular affect on the brain's processing of pain, the study authors report in the journal Sleep.

"It's not just the total sleep loss, it's the fragmentation," lead researcher Dr. Michael T. Smith, of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, told Reuters Health.

Specifically, he said, sleep disruptions may affect the body's opioid system, which helps regulate pain perception. In doing so, fragmented sleep might contribute to or worsen the chronic pain of people with fibromyalgia or lower back problems, for example.

The findings are based on a week-long sleep study of 32 healthy women. On the first two nights, all participants slept for a normal 8-hour period. They were then assigned to one of three groups for the next three nights: a "forced awakening" group where participants were repeated roused from sleep each night; a second group that was kept up late and awakened early; and a "control" group that continued to get a good night's sleep.

Throughout the study, the women also had their pain perception measured. In one test, pressure was applied to their arm muscles until they said they felt pain. In a second test, pressure was applied to each woman's arm while her opposite hand was immersed in cold water; normally, this cold-water shock should lessen the pain perceived in the other arm, as the body's pain-inhibiting systems kick in.

However, Smith's team found, this natural pain inhibition appeared to be dysfunctional when the study participants were subjected to forced awakenings. What's more, women in this group reported having more aches and pains on the days following their sleep-disrupted nights.

Smith said the study's forced-awakening condition was akin to having middle-of-the-night insomnia -- or to being a doctor on call or a parent responding to a newborn's cries.

People who have both chronic pain and trouble staying asleep should consider seeking therapy for their sleep problem, he suggested. One approach to treating insomnia, Smith noted, is to restrict the amount of time a patient sleeps; although this means at first sleeping for only a few hours, it's a solid, uninterrupted few hours.

So this type of therapy, by reducing fragmented sleep, might be helpful for people with chronic pain, according to Smith. "This study actually supports that approach, particularly for chronic pain patients," he said.

I LOVE SPONGEBOB!

yipee, yesterday some of the guys went training with me. i believe they all "enjoyed" the training and benefited from it. hahaha... we shall have more trainings in future... also gentle reminder, please do stretching now n then when u r feeling the ache. tsk tsk =P

anyway, i was reading a book and i came across this extraction:

Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carol

'would you tell me please, which way i ought to go from here?'

'That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,' said the cat.

'I don't much care where...' said Alice.

'Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the cat.

The author is trying to bring something across. That's the choice and point of view.
Then it occurred to me that sometimes, we don't know what we r aiming for or even dunno where's the finishing line. Humans are becoming more like "robots", many do not know wat they r working so hard for. I always believe that if there's an end point ur path will be clear.

Even when times u have to make a choice, do think twice before making a decision as there's no turning back in a final decision. Even if u made a wrong choice, it doesn't say it's the end of the world. It only means that u SACRIFICED ur choice, to GAIN a lesson learn. I read a book by Mitch Albom, "Five People You Meet in Heaven". There is one part where Eddie met his army captain. Eddie was on the verge of going into a mental breakdown. The captain fired a shot at his leg to bring his senses back n brought him back home. In the end, Eddie was made one leg crippled for the rest of his life. Yes, he sacrificed his leg but in return he gained back his life.

Sometimes, it's the way people think about certain things. Yes, u may have made a wrong choice which resulted u sacrificing something. But, see it from another way, u may have gained something or ur sacrifice has made another person gained from it.

So instead of pondering over the last "mistake", take it bravely and march on to future. If ever, the same situation is to come by again, be it urself or ur fren, family member, or anyone else, i believe u will be able to advise them wat u LEARN from the past.

Always respect the choice u made, it's the minimum self-respect u can get from urself. =]

[Every lesson learn, is like putting a "penny" into ur invisible pocket and there's no limit to it...]

I LOVE SPONGEBOB!

Brief summary

I was out late for the past few days. didn't manage to blog at all. but it's time to blog. hahaha... =)

Wed:
had local revision classes for math2 n stats2 while the BLACKS ppl are in the "BLACKS" room studying. Yup, it was my very first time knowing that there's even one for them to study.

i was inside the stats2 lect n bernard was telling us that he misses us. he is always telling us abt how he love us n will always shower with his love. hahaha...

but the most important thing is the MI friendly after lecture. itching for a game as always. hahaha... and we won MI 15-7. scored afew shots with kannan's assists. we made a great pair.. haha. ok that was abit gay.. =S

headed down to chomp chomp for "din-per" (dinner-cum-supper) hahaha... it was a good get together time for us...

Thurs:
PBF day it is. i started with local revision n studying PBF in the BLACKS room. actually didn't wanted to study pbf but after the class, I think should. I have been trying my luck too much by studying only 3 chapters out of 9 to spot questions. HIGH RISK, EXPECTED RETURNS DEPENDENT ON QUESTIONS. hahaha..

so i decided to study ONE more chapter to increase my chances. hahaha... the whole afternoon of highlighting textbook n subject guide n writing notes here n there yet i still haven finish the chapter.

brain cramped n i was hungry. in the end stopped to rest. cos i always believed in this saying:
休息, 是为了走更长远的路...

then the few of us headed down to dunman food court for dinner. it's also another BLACKS hangout hot spots. hahaha... only the guys n some girls will know. =D

anyway, we had a new comer in the group, that's elynn?? (actually i dunno how to spell it correctly but the girls call her choy) the whole night everyone was trying to guess who she is. as in is she a mix-blood. cos she looks like a malay n has an unique accent. she told us she's Brazilian-Korean... ooo... how often u find one like that. hahahaha.... but before we left the place she told us she's a pure chinese -_-|||||

but she's from hongkong. hahaha... oh my gosh right... ever since then i always call her Korean for short. hahaha...

Fri:
STATS1 Day. Full day class of overseas revision. terrible...

the lecturer dun even let u talk to ur fren during lecture. her radar's super sensitive i tell u. she's always catching ppl talking and asking them to answer question. hahaha. so awkward for the ppl who get caught. but the best thing abt her is the long coffee breaks. she's scared we dun get the coffee we deserve. hahaha...

so dun these breaks mich n i will head down to the BLACKS room to disturb ppl hahaha... especially gopi. hahahaha... no hard feelings yea bro. =)

n Val came into the room destroying some one's stuff. draw more smiley faces la... hahahaha...

Sat:
Busy day for the BLACKS. I helped kannan with the stuff for the birthday celebrations. buying of nonsense birthday packages, cakes n collecting of food. wow. was really tiring. but it's all for the birthday babies.

celebration starts- we hold the party at Frujch! this cafe in SMU which is set up by SMU students who are also from the SMU floorball team. the place is super nice, i shall explain further later. they have a wide variety of beverages. they have xbox,PS2,foots ball table, air hockey table, 2 pool tables, dvd player with a flat screen tv. on top of that, there are alot of different areas for ppl to sit in a group to play board games which the cafe has, eg. Taboo, settlers of catan, twister, cluedo and many more. it's really a cozy n fun place to have event or get together.

let's talk abt the game of the night. Taboo...

taboo was the highlight of the night when everyone's sitting around just feeling sleepy n cozy. i called for a game of taboo. it was full of laughter n silly happenings during the game.

Highlight no. 1- Sally 大姐
it was my turn to do the talking. first word for me was scandal. so knowing that the floorball team is full of that n i know that everyone gossips here n there. surely it has made the word easy to guess... but i was TERRIBLY WRONG!!!!!!!!!!

Me: floorball is full of?
Group mates: balls?

Me: Guy n girl??
GM: couples? love?

i was like oh no. must say more obvious things to hint them.

Me: paparazzi likes to take pics of guy n girl? that is wat??
Sally: MAKING LOVE!

the whole table burst into laughter...

as the laughter gets lesser n lesser, we changed the rules abit to facilitate more fun. Only actions can be used to make everyone guess the word. no talking at all...

Highlight no. 2- Ra-elle
Raelle's word is 1st class. her actions are damn ultimate. only Yasi can guess it.

action no. 1 - she showed a 1
action no. 2 - she act like she's sitting on a chair with her right hand shooting out 45 degrees upwards like hitler.

imagine that. how are u able to guess it's 1st class. hahahahaha....

everyone was damn tired of laughing n stuff. so we all decided to rest n relax. it was super hilarious for the whole group of Taboo-ers.

we proceeded with the cake cutting and i got the 6 april babies to each wear a lady bug hat (which raelle perceive it as beetles.. hahaha..). we even got face paint to draw on them. hahaha.. that was fun...

and i suddenly realized something while everyone's taking pictures n playing ard. there were 3 girls in front of the xbox n PS2 consoles playing fifa06 n DOA. hahaha... it was damn funny as they are totally unaffected by the whole commotion at the table.

i like told the whole group this:
wait a minute! i wan to say something. when everyone's taking pics happily, there's something everyone should know. there are 3 girls there playing game n are unaffected by everything.

guess who r the 3 girls? baoying, melissa n prissy.

while everyone continued to take pics, they r still there. and funny part comes in when sally joined them. hahahaha....

it was a damn cool n fun night for everyone.

Oh ya. i almost forget to mention one person in particular. that's kannan's gf, clarice. i must say she has a great talent for card making. and the cards for all floorballers are all her productions. i must say she will make it big if she ever starts a biz in card making. kudos to u girl. =)

so much for the brief summary... =)

Details of many stuff were kept inside me which cannot be disclosed. [P.S: this is for ppl who know wat i m talking abt... =X ]
